Aroma:
The first impression is strong and spicy, characterised by intense aromas of ripe apples and pears, accompanied by sweet honey and caramel. This is accompanied by notes of dried fruit such as sultanas and figs as well as a hint of malt and vanilla. A light oak spice and a delicate hint of tobacco round off the flavour.
Flavour:
Strong and oily, the high alcohol content contributes to the intensity of the flavours. Sweet vanilla and buttery toffee take centre stage, combining harmoniously with spicy notes of cinnamon and nutmeg. Malt and light chocolate notes are added, while a subtle smokiness, which is characteristic of Benrinnes, is noticeable in the background.
Finish:
Long lasting and warming. The sweetness of vanilla and honey remains, accompanied by spicy oak notes and a gentle bitterness that makes the finish complex and deep. A hint of dark chocolate and nuts lingers in the memory.
Conclusion:
A strong, full-bodied whisky that gains in intensity due to its high alcohol content without losing its balance. The typical Benrinnes characteristics, combined with the influences of the cask, make it an interesting dram for lovers of complex and spicy whiskies.
