Appearance : Deep amber with a reddish-gold hue.

 

Aroma : Rich aromas of dried figs, raisins and dates,accompanied by dark chocolate and a hint of cinnamon. A subtle nuttiness and a hint of orange marmalade add depth.

 

Taste : An intense and sweet attack with notes of caramelized almonds, toffee and honey. There are also lush fruit notes of plums, blackcurrants and a hint of sour cherries. Spicy accents such as nutmeg and vanilla round off the flavor profile.

 

Finish: Long and warming with lingering notes of dark chocolate, sweet oak and a hint of espresso beans. The fruity and spicy elements linger pleasantly.

 

Verdict : The Glenallachie 2011 PX Puncheon shows the perfect balance of intense fruit sweetness and spicy complexity, typical of maturation in Pedro Ximénez casks. A delight for lovers of rich and complex single malts.
