Color:
Dark gold with copper reflections, leaving an oily, slightly viscous impression in the glass.
Aroma:
Strong peat smoke immediately greets the nose, accompanied by maritime notes such as salty sea air and a hint of seaweed. Sweet notes of caramel and honey unfold underneath, paired with ripe fruit - particularly dark berries and juicy pears. A hint of leather and spices, such as cinnamon and cloves, lend additional complexity.
Taste:
The first sip reveals Ledaig's characteristic smoky notes, but perfectly balanced by the three types of cask. Vanilla and oak notes from the maturation in bourbon casks are noticeable first. The sherry cask brings dried fruit such as raisins and dates, while the third cask - often French oak - adds spicy, slightly peppery notes and a creamy texture. The maritime saltiness remains present and combines wonderfully with the sweetness of the malt.
Finish:
Long-lasting and intense. The smoke gently recedes, leaving behind spicy and fruity notes accompanied by a pleasant, dry oak. A slightly salty finish provides freshness, while the sweetness slowly fades.
