Aroma : The first impression reveals a tantalising blend of smoke and sweetness. There are distinct notes of dried fruit, particularly sultanas and prunes, underlined by a gentle but persistent smoke. There are also hints of seaweed and salt, emphasising the whisky's maritime origins, and a subtle nuance of orange peel and dark chocolate, adding another layer of complexity.

Flavour : The Talisker 18 Year Old is characterised by its wonderful balance. The texture is rich and oily, creating a velvety mouthfeel. The smokiness is present but finely embedded in the sweet and spicy elements. Flavours of dark chocolate, caramel and a hint of vanilla lead to a spicy pepper kick that is so typical of Talisker. The maritime character remains, with subtle notes of salt and iodine rounding off the flavour profile.

Finish : Long and warming, with lingering spice and a pleasant smoky flavour. The finish brings out the fruitiness and sweet elements once again, accompanied by a lingering dryness and a hint of oak.
